Students Explored Solar Solutions at the 12th Solar Ambassador Program

Students of Mahadevi Birla Shishu Vihar Engage with Solar Technologies, Gaining Insight into Sustainable Energy Solutions
On January 24th, 2025, the 12th edition of the Solar Ambassador Program, organized by the International Solar Innovation Council (InSIC) and the NB Institute for Rural Technology (NBIRT), took place in Kolkata. This event, aimed at raising awareness about renewable energy, saw the participation of students from Mahadevi Birla Shishu Vihar (MBSV), an esteemed girls’ school, who were introduced to the innovative world of solar solutions and their role in building a sustainable future.
The interactive program allowed students to explore various solar-powered technologies, including Solar PV panels, a Pico Hydro Generator, Solar Sanitary Napkin Vending Machines, Solar Pumping Systems, Solar Water Purification Units, and bamboo-based solar garden lights and torches. These hands-on experiences showcased how solar energy can positively impact everyday life.
International experts from Finland, including Mr. Risto Isomaki, Mr. Markku Tahkokorpi, and Mr. Pekka Järvilehto, shared their insights into the global renewable energy sector, highlighting numerous career opportunities and inspiring students to consider future roles in solar innovation. The event was also attended by Prof. S.P. GonChaudhuri, who provided valuable mentorship to the participants, encouraging them to pursue careers in clean energy technologies.
The program fostered collaboration and creativity among the students, with group discussions encouraging the exchange of ideas and fostering an interactive environment. Volunteers from InSIC and NBIRT played a crucial role in demonstrating the solar-powered technologies and ensuring the smooth execution of the event.
By providing an experiential learning opportunity, the Solar Ambassador Program not only educated students about the immense potential of solar energy but also positioned them as future advocates for renewable and sustainable energy solutions. This event underscored the importance of green technologies and inspired the next generation to take an active role in creating a cleaner, more sustainable world.
