Solar Ambassador Program Sparks Renewable Energy Passion among the students

InSIC and NBIRT Collaborate to Inspire Next Generation of Renewable Energy Leaders

In an initiative to raise awareness about renewable energy, the International Solar Innovation Council (InSIC) and the NB Institute for Rural Technology (NBIRT) successfully hosted the 10th edition of the Solar Ambassador Program in Kolkata on October 1, 2024. The event drew enthusiastic participation from students of St. Xavier’s Collegiate School, deepening their understanding of sustainable energy solutions.

The program featured engaging sessions that allowed students to interact with innovative technologies. Participants conducted experiments using Solar PV panels and explored various devices, including the Pico Hydro Generator, Solar Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine, Solar Pumping System, Solar Water Purification System, and Bamboo-based solar garden and torch lights.

Experts from Finland, such as Mr. Risto Isomaki, Mr. Markku Tahkokorpi, and Mr. Pekka Järvilehto, shared valuable insights on global opportunities in the renewable energy sector, inspiring students to take an active role in the field. Notable figures, including Prof. S.P. GonChaudhuri, also attended, offering guidance to the aspiring solar ambassadors.

The program encouraged student involvement, allowing them to interact between each other by participating in a group discussion. Volunteers from NBIRT and InSIC played a crucial role in showcasing solar innovations funded by InSIC and ensuring the event ran smoothly.

By focusing on experiential learning and interactive discussions, the Solar Ambassador Program empowered participants to become advocates for sustainable energy, serving as a catalyst for fostering a greener future and promoting renewable energy adoption in the region.
