Innovating Solar Solutions for Billions
Solar Ambassador Program Inspires Students to Lead the Charge for Renewable Energy
InSIC and NBIRT Collaborate to Cultivate the Next Generation of Solar Energy Advocates
On November 22, 2024, the International Solar Innovation Council (InSIC) and the NB Institute for Rural Technology (NBIRT) hosted the 11th edition of the Solar Ambassador Program in Kolkata. The event, aimed at raising awareness of renewable energy, brought together students from Bhavans Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir, an esteemed co-educational school, to learn about innovative solar solutions and their role in building a sustainable future.
The program offered an engaging, hands-on experience where students interacted with various solar-powered technologies. Participants explored Solar PV panels, a Pico Hydro Generator, a Solar Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine, Solar Pumping Systems, Solar Water Purification Units, and bamboo-based solar garden lights and torches. These experiments allowed the students to see firsthand how solar energy can transform everyday life.
International experts from Finland, including Mr. Risto Isomaki, Mr. Markku Tahkokorpi, and Mr. Pekka Järvilehto, shared their global insights into the renewable energy sector. Their discussions highlighted the vast career opportunities in the field and motivated students to pursue roles in renewable energy innovation. The event was also attended by Prof. S.P. GonChaudhuri, who provided valuable mentorship to the budding solar ambassadors.
The program encouraged students to collaborate and exchange ideas during group discussions, creating an interactive environment that sparked curiosity and innovation. Volunteers from InSIC and NBIRT played a vital role in ensuring the success of the event, demonstrating solar-powered technologies funded by InSIC and facilitating the smooth flow of activities.
Through this experiential learning initiative, the Solar Ambassador Program not only educated students about the potential of solar energy but also inspired them to champion renewable energy solutions. The event underscored the importance of sustainable energy and positioned the students as future advocates for clean and green technologies.
