In a significant stride towards fostering renewable energy education, the International Solar Innovation Council (InSIC) and the NB Institute for Rural Technology (NBIRT) recently united to host the 7th edition of the Solar Ambassador Program in Kolkata. The event, held on May 7th, 2024, witnessed an enthusiastic turnout from students of Desh Bandhu College for Girls, Kolkata, marking a pivotal moment in sustainable energy awareness.
Starting with an engaging session on 'Introduction to Renewable Energy,' students delved into practical experiments, gaining invaluable firsthand experience with cutting-edge solar technologies. From the innovative Pico Hydro Generator to the Solar Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine, attendees explored a spectrum of solutions including the Solar Pumping System, Solar Water Purification System, and Bamboo-based solar garden light & torch light. Discussions also centred around factors influencing Solar PV Performance, enriching participants with comprehensive knowledge.
Esteemed personalities such as Prof. S.P. GonChaudhuri and other experts Mr. Pekka Järvilehto, Ms. Elina Mahonen, and Mr. Markku Tahkokorpi from Finland led discussions on global opportunities in renewable energy. Their insights illuminated pathways for students to engage meaningfully in the renewable energy sector.
Moreover, the event provided a platform for students to offer valuable feedback, influencing the future trajectory of the Solar Ambassador Program. Volunteers from NBIRT and InSIC played instrumental roles in ensuring the program's success, showcasing solar innovations funded by InSIC and facilitating seamless execution.
