Principal Investigator - Dr Raghu Rama Das

Project Funded By :- InSIC

Project Brief:

The project aims to develop a cost effective Solar dryer for drying fruits and vegetables. The project has been completed by developing 3 different prototypes of the Solar dryer. It has been tested and standardized. Now it is ready for marketing at farmers level or small entrepreneurs’ level. The Solar dryer has been tested with different fruits, vegetables and tuber crops. Its performance found satisfactory compared to the conventional drying as the newly developed Solar dryer has considerably reduce the drying time and improve the quality of material. The efficiency of the Mitraniketan model Solar drying system helps to decrease the drying cost of agriculture products compared to electrical drying. The colour, texture and appearance of the end products also gave higher visual score to Mitraniketan model Solar dryer than open sun drying.

Current Project Status:-

Current project status The project has been completed. 3 models have been developed in 3 different sizes that is 4 Sq m2 , 2 Sq m2 and 1 Sq m2 area. There is order from the local farmers for a smaller version of the dryer (that is 1 Sq.m2 ) which is under production. We are in a position to produce and supply the product from our prototype development unit.
